A Restored Work of Art

Sydney’s heritage listed Coney Island, has recently completed refurbishments to preserve the iconic attraction for years to come.

The refurbishment occured in stages, beginning with the exterior preparation of Coney Island on Wednesday 18th May. This stage involved the removal, pending restoration, of the Art Deco ornaments at the top of its entrance. The overall external refurbishment of Coney Island commenced in mid-July, which included replacing each and every one of the light bulbs on the exterior of the building.

Now that the Coney Island works have been completed, Luna Park has begun refurbishment of the Crystal Palace, and will tackle the Face and Towers in the coming months, including the continuing project of re-bulbing the 25,000 lights that exist throughout the Park.

Peter Hearne, Luna Park Sydney’s Managing Director, said: “Luna Park’s unique architecture and rich history need to be balanced with ongoing maintenance to ensure the icon is preserved for generations to come.”

Coney Island is still in open during Park operation hours.
